Bard II is King of Dale at the end of the Third Age, following his father Brand's death in the War of the Ring.
In 3019 of the Third Age, Easterling forces allied with Sauron invaded the North. Brand and King Dáin Ironfoot of Erebor were both slain in battle before the gates of the Lonely Mountain. The Men of Dale and the Dwarves withdrew into Erebor and endured siege. After the downfall of Sauron in the south, the Easterlings were defeated, and the siege was lifted. With his father dead, Bard II succeeded to the throne of Dale, continuing the royal line first restored by his illustrious ancestor.
Bard II now rules in a time of renewal following the overthrow of Sauron. Dale, long a center of trade and culture in the North, has resumed its prosperity under his governance. The alliance between Dale and Erebor endures, strengthened by the shared defence of the North during the war. Under Bard II, the kingdom continues as a recognized realm among the Free Peoples, maintaining the legacy established by his ancestor Bard the Bowman, and preserved through the generations from Girion and as far back as the first lord of Dale, Bródda.
